At Butler Kahn, we believe in giving back. This is the seventh consecutive year in which we have donated $100,000 to the top charities as ranked by GiveWell, an independent nonprofit dedicated to identifying “the charities that save or improve lives the most per dollar.”

This year, Buter Kahn’s $100,000 will be distributed as follows:

• $100,000 to GiveWell’s Top Charities Fund.

This year, as in several previous years, we will donate to GiveWell’s Top Charities Fund. GiveWell keeps an updated list of its Top Charities, meaning the charities that accomplish the most human good per dollar donated. There are several charities that appear among the Top Charities time and time again, such as the Against Malaria Foundation, which distributes mosquito nets in areas where malaria is common, and the Vitamin A Supplementation Program by Hellen Keller International, which distributes vitamin A to children in areas where crippling deficiency is common. Currently, those two charities are joined in GiveWell’s Top Charities by the Malaria Consortium, which distributes anti-malarial medicine, and New Incentives, which incentivizes the administration of childhood vaccines in area where deaths from preventable illness is common.

All four are great charities. But which is best able to put additional funding to use right now? We don’t know – but GiveWell does. So for 2024, we donated to the Top Charities Fund so that GiveWell can allocate the funds among those four charities however the money will be most effective.
