DEMOREST, GEORGIA (May 2, 2025) – At least three people were injured in a Demorest car accident along Georgia State Route 105 by the intersection of Cap Fry Road.

Habersham County officials are saying that the incident took place around 7:13 p.m. on Wednesday. The driver of a Honda Accord was headed east on GA 105 when he collided with a Toyota Camry at the intersection.

Mariah Yeh, 18, of Cleveland was the driver of the Honda. The force of the impact caused the Honda to rotate and collide with a GMC 1500 driven by James Wanzy.

Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help all of the victims. At least one person was transported to the hospital in an ambulance. Another person was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.

Georgia State Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.

Liability for Georgia Car Accidents

Speeding remains one of the most common causes of car accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “For more than two decades, speeding has been involved in approximately one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. In 2023, speeding was a contributing factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities.” There are many different ways that speeding could contribute to a collision.

  • Vehicle Stability: Drivers are more likely to lose control of their vehicle at higher speeds.
  • Stopping Distance: Vehicles take much longer to stop at higher speeds.
  • Roadway Hazards: Drivers are less able to identify roadway hazards at higher speeds.

Drivers must operate their vehicles at a safe speed at all times. Pursuant to GA Code § 40-6-180, no person shall operate a motor vehicle at a speed greater than would be reasonable and prudent under the prevailing traffic conditions and hazards on the roadway. There is a rebuttable presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that rear-ends another vehicle in their own lane of traffic. Several steps should be taken after any car accident resulting in injuries.

  • Accident victims should seek a thorough medical evaluation.
  • A police report of the incident should be created.
  • The circumstances leading up to the collision should be understood.
  • An experienced Atlanta car accident attorneyshould be contacted.

Car accidents are often highly preventable. They tend to involve situations where drivers are either speeding or following the vehicle ahead of them too closely. Many collisions can be avoided if drivers would simply slow down. Unfortunately, drivers and their insurance providers will often fight hard to deny any legal responsibility in the event of a collision. This is why it is so important that any person injured in a car accident seek the guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney.
