Multiple People Injured in Dunwoody Car Accident During Fourth of July Parade
Truck Driver Accidentally Hit the Accelerator Before Dunwoody Crash That Injured Several Children
DUNWOODY, GEORGIA (July 8, 2025) – Several people were injured in a Dunwoody truck accident during a Fourth of July parade by Mount Vernon Road at Dunwoody Village Parkway.
Dunwoody officials are saying that the accident took place around 10:13 a.m. on Friday. Authorities are saying that a Ford F150 Lightning with a trailer was heading down the road.
Two people inside of the vehicle were allegedly switching positions so that a new person could be in the driver’s seat. The new driver apparently hit the accelerator and caused the vehicle to move forward.
At some point, the trailer disconnected and caused the trailer occupants to strike the side railing. Paramedics were called to the scene to help all of the victims.
In total, four adults and four children were injured. A 22-year-old and a 23-year-old have since turned themselves in following the crash.
Liability for DeKalb County Truck Accidents
Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “Between 1913 and 2023, motor-vehicle deaths per 10,000 registered vehicles decreased 95%, from 33 to 1.57, respectively. In 1913, only 1.3 million vehicles were registered, and 4,200 people died on the road. In 2023, 285 million vehicles were registered, and 44,762 people died on the road.” Many different actions could contribute to a car accident.
- Speed: Drivers are substantially more likely to be involved in a collision at higher speeds.
- Driver Intoxication: A large portion of collisions involve a driver intoxicated by alcohol or other substances.
- Inclement Weather: Many collisions occur during periods of inclement weather. Roads sickened by rain or snow can make it difficult for drivers to avoid a collision.
Every driver in Georgia has a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid collisions. They must operate their vehicle in a safe way at all times. Pursuant to GA Code § 40-6-390, “Any person who drives any vehicle in reckless disregard for the safety of persons or property commits the offense of reckless driving.” If a driver causes injury to another person as a result of their reckless driving, they could face criminal and civil liability for the accident.
It is also possible that liability for any car accident could extend beyond any driver. This is particularly true if a pickup truck or other vehicle was being used for commercial purposes. For example, if a city government pickup truck was being used for a parade, the government agency that owned or operated the truck could be held at fault. Generally speaking, employers are liable for the wrongful actions of their workers–insofar as those workers were operating within their job duties. Victims of car accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
- Broken Bones: Cars weigh thousands of pounds, and even low-impact collisions can result in catastrophic injuries.
- Head Injuries: Many accident victims hit their heads on car doors, windshields, or other fixed objects. This could result in serious brain injuries.
- Organ Damage: Many of the injuries associated with car accidents are not outwardly obvious. Victims may sustain major damage to their liver, intestines, and other internal organs.
The vast majority of car accidents are totally preventable. They tend to involve situations where drivers are speeding, operating their vehicle recklessly, or otherwise violating traffic regulations. It can be hard to know what to do after any accident. To make matters worse, drivers and their insurance providers will do everything in their power to deny responsibility for collisions. This is why it is so critical that victims seek the guidance of an experienced attorney.
