Investigation Underway After Semi-Truck Involved in Fatal Collision With Passenger Vehicle Near the Intersection of Cleon Mosley Road and Highway 280

Causes of 18-Wheeler Accidents

TATTNALL COUNTY, GEORGIA (November 15, 2025) – One person has tragically died, and another person was injured in a Tattnall County truck accident by the intersection of Cleon Mosley Road and Highway 280.

Tattnall County officials are saying that the accident took place around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. For undetermined reasons, a truck collided with a passenger vehicle.

Police and first responders were called to the scene of the accident to help the victims. The driver of the passenger vehicle was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

Sadly, they were pronounced dead at the hospital. A full investigation into the truck accident remains ongoing.

Liability for Tattnall County Semi-Truck Accidents

Truck drivers are required to obtain a commercial driver’s license. They must operate with a great deal of care to avoid collisions. Many truck accidents involve drivers that are speeding. Pursuant to GA Code § 40-6-180, “No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard for the actual and potential hazards then existing.” Truck drivers should take several actions to avoid collisions.

  • Blind Spots: Truck drivers should check their blind spots before changing lanes or making turns at intersections.
  • Fatigue: Truck drivers should ensure they are well rested and take periodic breaks throughout their shift.
  • Maintenance: Truck drivers should ensure that their vehicles are regularly inspected and well maintained.

If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting another vehicle, this could be construed as negligence. Liability for any particular collision could extend beyond a truck driver deemed to be at fault. For example, the company that a truck driver worked for could also bear some legal responsibility. Generally speaking, employers in Georgia can be held liable for the wrongful actions of their employees who are operating within the course and scope of their job duties.

Common Injuries Associated with Tattnall County Truck Accidents

A fully loaded truck can weigh 80,000 pounds. These vehicles are routinely involved in many serious and fatal collisions each year. According to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, “In 2021, there were 25,504 large trucks involved in motor vehicle traffic crashes that resulted in 617 serious injuries and 244 fatalities. Most large truck-related crashes involved other vehicles — 89 percent involved at least one other vehicle besides the large truck (20,843 out of 23,431 motor vehicle traffic crashes).” Victims of truck accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken Bones: The impact of a truck accident can result in complex fractures.
  • Organ Damage: Not all of the damage from a truck accident will be outwardly obvious. Victims often sustain major trauma to their internal organs.
  • Head Injuries: If a person in a vehicle hits their head against a window or other fixed object, this could result in a head injury.
  • Death: Tragically, many victims of truck accidents do not survive their injuries. Several thousand people die each year in accidents with commercial trucks.

Truck accidents are often highly preventable. They tend to be the result of clear safety lapses. This can include situations where truck drivers are traveling at an unsafe speed or failing to maintain adequate distance with vehicles ahead of them. The family of any person who died due to the negligent actions of a truck driver may be able to seek some measure of justice and accountability through a civil action.
