Liability for Baldwin County Mail Truck Accidents
Truck drivers must use caution to avoid colliding with other vehicles in the roadway. To that end, they must travel at a safe speed at all times. Pursuant to GA Code § 40-6-180, “No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard for the actual and potential hazards then existing.” Truck companies should take several actions to help prevent collisions.
- Training: Companies should ensure that all of their drivers are properly certified and well trained.
- Route Planning: Companies should plan routes that eliminate as many left turns as possible.
- Inspections: Companies should ensure that their vehicles are routinely inspected and well maintained.
- Safety Culture: Companies should ensure that their drivers are adhering to all traffic regulations and not speeding at any time during their routes.
If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with another vehicle, this may be construed as negligence. The company that any mail truck driver was working for could also be held at fault. Generally speaking, companies can be held liable for the wrongful conduct of their workers who were operating within the course and scope of their job duties. This could include instances where a truck driver was delivering mail or packages.

Many people are seriously injured in accidents with commercial trucks each year. According to the IIHS, “The main problem is the vulnerability of people traveling in smaller vehicles. Trucks often weigh 20-30 times as much as passenger cars and are taller with greater ground clearance, which can result in smaller vehicles underriding trucks in crashes.” It is important that certain actions are taken after any truck accident.
